Yearly Fisheries Industry Reports are created within this project. In Fisheries Industry Report 2013 we present the financial performance of the fishing, aquaculture, fish processing, fish wholesale and retail trade sectors. The report is based on the latest statistics, surveys and accounts of fisheries sector enterprises. In the Finnish fisheries sector in 2011 there were 846 enterprises with a turnover of more than 10,340 euros. Total revenues of the sector amounted to 735 million euros. The added value amounted to 133 million euros, and the sector had 2,283 full-time equivalent employees. 42% of the enterprises operated in fishing. Fish processing generated the highest revenues and also had the most employees. Apart from aquaculture and retail, the revenues of the fisheries sector increased in 2011. Fishing and fish processing achieved the best growth in revenues. International fish trade saw further growth in 2012. The profitability of fishing increased in 2011 but the profitability of aquaculture was worse than in 2010. Net income from fish processing generally increased, but the profitability of small-sized processing companies weakened. The profitability of fish wholesalers fell, whereas retail traders - with the exception of small enterprises - improved their profitability. At the beginning of 2012, the sector expected that the positive trend would continue, but small enterprises were more cautious than other companies. Goal: To overview the sector based on the latest statistics, surveys and accounts of fisheries sector enterprises.
