Summary "During the project period, a concept has been arrived at that solves the task of automatic salting of fish.
An automated systems was developed for salting fish in 1,000 liter vats, and feeding fish into a spotting machine. To be able to do this, robotic technology and vision technology were used, as well as specially developed systems for guiding the product to the robot.
The equipment was tested in full production by a salted fish producer. The prototype for salting fish in tanks is thus available for potential interests in the salted fish and clipfish industry. However, the risk of commercialization is considered too great. The market in Norway is not ready to invest in this type of equipment, and for foreign first-time installations the risk is too high. The project group believes that this solution can be taken up again at a later stage, when the market is ready to accept advanced robot solutions. The market potential for a system that covers the need for salting fish in tanks is very large if the price and function are correct in relation to what the market wants. This time, these factors have not been met in this country, although there has been great interest from abroad. Stette, together with her partners, has learned a lot through the project and believes she is better equipped to solve similar tasks in the future. This product turned out to be too far on the side of what the saltfish producers see an opportunity to implement in a production characterized by small margins on volume-based operations."
