Interconnection between technology and humans using ICT-based wireless networks has not been done before within the aquaculture industry. One has operated with a stand-alone system that has not communicated with either humans or with instrumentation in an intelligent way. Nor has one thought of farming as a process industry with the control, monitoring and regulation possibilities it entails. Through PISCADA, one wants to change this by connecting the various parts such as people, fish and facilities in an integrated complex system using of modern communication and computer technology. Central to this system will be the introduction of an operations center that will act as a kind of brain that collects, processes and sends out information. In addition to implementing modern technology, the project will also address how people should work together with this technology. To make this visible, use will be made of demonstration activities that will be important for the environment and safety within the industry. PI SCADA will open up for automation and process control on a much larger scale than is possible with the current way of farming. The vision for PISCDA is to transform the aquaculture industry so that aquaculture is seen as a production process that can be controlled and regulated by means of real-time knowledge of the condition in and outside the cage by creating an environmentally sound and at the same time economically optimal production.
