Summary Aquaculture in Italy boasts the presence of leading companies in the sector, annually producing a total of about 141 thousand tons of fish products in fresh and marine waters for a value of about 393 million euros, with about 6,899 workers directly involved. A positive growth trend is expected for the sector up to 2025, equal to 37% compared to 2013. The identification of new areas for aquaculture activities, together with a review of the administrative and concession framework, will contribute to relaunch the competitiveness of regional productions, in respect to low-cost and highly differentiated foreign productions. The most suitable marine-coastal areas to be used for shellfish farming will be identified, in relation to the oceanographic and trophic parameters of the waters, the production parameters of the sector, the potential development of infrastructures and services, as well as in relation to the economic and management aspects of the related activities to the sector and also health and environmental sustainability in the Puglia Region.
