Summary Among all the seafood, oysters are considered the most popular and many of the species that make up the family Ostreidae, are grown and harvested in the different oceans of the world. Nowadays, the oyster-culture is still a little practice exercised in Italy and is associated only marginally mussel. The technique of breeding more widespread in Italy is the use of long-line suspended, consisting of a main beam from which depart at regular intervals the supports for the mussel or in racks stacked for oyster-culture. One of the main problems for oyster-culture in the Marche Region in Italy, especially in suspended installations, is biofouling, i.e. the set of plant and animal organisms that over time should be to adhere to the surfaces of structures cultivation. The biofouling consists of sessile organisms that feed primarily by filtering water with the dual effect of burdening long-term structure submerged plant breeding (especially the batteries of baskets containing oysters) and compete with oysters for food and space. The study of systems, devices and of simple technological innovations that allow limiting the engraftment of biofouling on the surfaces of the containers of oysters is therefore relevant.
Goal:
The project was aimed at testing and verification of a low-cost system for the reduction of biofouling in plant breeding oysters suspended on supports similar to those used for mussel culture (long-line).
