The shrimp industry has a challenge for the treatment of waste from the production of peeled shrimp, in the form of shrimp shells and rinsing water that contains large amounts of nutrients. In organic production, access to nutrients is one of the bottlenecks for increased cultivation and turnover. This blue-green project will create a win-win situation by developing a usable organic fertilizer product based on waste from the shrimp industry as a basis for increased organic food production. The project will develop technology for the production of a granulated fertilizer product that can be used in equipment that already exists in agricultural production today. It will be studied how and how quickly the various nutrients are released into the soil, and whether the product has a beneficial effect on the occurrence of plant diseases. The project is owned by the shrimp producer Stella Polaris AS and the potato organization Ottar. Fiskeriforskning and Bioforsk are responsible for the R&D activities in the project.
