The proposed research project aims at the efficient recovery of recyclable waste of marine origin, containing chitinous compounds, whose presence in the environment is a threat. To achieve this goal, the optimization of the extraction process of chitin / chitosan from marine waste (environmental and food sources) will be carried out. After establishing the optimal extraction parameters of the chitinous material, the study of the cellular response will continue (membrane interactions, stimulation or inhibition of protein activity, regularization of the cell cycle). Inspired by nature, from the rapid recovery of crustacean carcass, as a result of the shelling process, the studies proposed in the project aim to identify mechanisms, understand certain cellular processes, model molecular signals with a role in regulating proliferative processes, under the action of derivatives of the chitin type (chitin, chitosan, oligochitosan), and to establish new bioformulations based on chitin / chitosan for applications in fundamental biology, aquaculture, agriculture or human health.
