Vegetation over farmed nets is a significant problem for mariculture worldwide. In Norwegian salmon farming, the use of copper-based impregnation is a dominant measure to control fouling. Through international agreements, Norway has committed itself to working to reduce the use of copper-resistant impregnating agents. A cessation of copper-based impregnations will have serious consequences for the Norwegian aquaculture industry, as long as alternative solutions are not satisfactory. Vegetation control also entails large annual costs for the aquaculture industry. Goal To create knowledge and insight that can lead to a reduction in the use of copper-based impregnating agents in the Norwegian aquaculture industry, based on the SINTEF group's survey of the use of impregnation in the industry
