In conjunction with our commercial partner Loch Duart Ltd, this project looked at integrating macroalgal cultivation with commercial fish farming activities, creating an IMTA (integrated multi-trophic aquaculture) system. Over two growing seasons, longlines of three species of kelp were seeded and ongrown at the Scottish Marine Institute, then removed to Loch Duart to be outplanted in close proximity to established salmon cages, and growth monitored over the outplanting season.
