The present project was complementary to a project funded by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and represents the continuation of the investigation on the farming of Pholas dactylus carried out in the coastal area of Marche Region. The project was aimed to: (1) Test artificial substrates made of different materials for the settlement and subsequent on-growing of this species in order to give the shells a different colour and easily distinguish the farmed individuals from the wild ones; (2) Identify the most suitable material in terms of density and growth rate.
