Summary The viral disease infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) affects salmon in the hatchery and marine phases. The fact that the IPN problem has not abated is shown by the number of more than 200 localities with diagnosed IPN outbreaks in recent years. This is despite the fact that vaccination against IPN has been ongoing throughout this period, with several vaccine products on the market showing good effects in infection trials.
"Why do we not control IPN, despite efforts in recent years?" This is the "1000 kroner question" that is constantly repeated - and which is still unanswered. It is implicitly claimed here that significant efforts have been made to control IPN in recent years. This raises new questions: What IPN-relevant control measures are in question, and at what level are these measures implemented? Target of projet is to conduct a review and evaluation of the most important control measures against IPN in the last 10-year period.
i. To obtain an overview by means of a simplified questionnaire of which of the recommended measures have been used and experiences gained.
ii. To review administrative IPN-related measures for breeding fish, juvenile fish and food fish.
iii. To describe new results that have emerged through IPN-related R&D during the period.
