Central Norway to map mortality and the causes of mortality for exposed salmon smolts in 2009. The results revealed that survival of exposed smolts shows great variation, both between smolt groups from different hatcheries and between different sites in the sea. The results from the survey show that increased knowledge of various factors that affect fish survival can greatly contribute to better fish welfare, fish health and finances. Mapping mortality patterns on a national basis will provide a broader and more secure basis for necessary adaptations of operating conditions for the aquaculture industry. To map the main causes of wastage on salmon and trout exposed in 2010. Sub-goals • To carry out a survey that shall cover at least 90% of all salmon and trout exposed. • To group mapped wastage into factors related to hatcheries, infectious diseases in the sea phase and factors related to characteristics with locality, operation and handling. • To report results at county level - with specified statistical variations within the county to ensure understanding of mortality patterns and possible targeted measures.
