This project seeks to make optimal use of genomic information in commercial breeding schemes across the species of cattle, pigs and salmon. Firstly, practical software tools have been developed to incorporate the information from genome-wide dense marker genotyping into the estimation of genomic breeding values (GEBV), used in genome-wide selection (GWS). Secondly, GWS selection steps are designed for the current breeding schemes. Thirdly, new breeding strategies are designed that are tailored to GWS. Fourthly, the best use of genomic information will be implemented in the breeding schemes for cattle, pigs and salmon. The partners in the project are the Norwegian breeding organizations Norsvin, Geno and AquaGen and the research institutions Nofima and Norwegian University of Life Sciences
