Summary Gnawing and wear between nets, bottom ring used for unwinding of nets, chains for suspension have been identified as a challenge associated with escape cases and near-escapes. After the storms in late autumn 2011, extensive tests were carried out with model systems on Marintek's wave tank. This provided a lot of new knowledge about how such systems work together under different wave conditions. Further optimization and standardization of various existing and possible new technical solutions for the use of bottom ring will be able to go much faster and with a better decision basis when conducting new, well-planned tests and follow-up modeling.
Goals:
To obtain basic knowledge for escape-proof use of nets and spills under different weather conditions.
Sub-goals
• To prepare a detailed project description and experimental plan in collaboration with the steering group and relevant suppliers.
• To study the behavior of the net, floating collar and spinning system to avoid chafing between the net and spinning system.
• To test different solutions and set up based on input from suppliers and definition of steering group.
• To look at the interaction and effect of dead fish collectors and any other connected equipment that may affect the behavior of the system or cause gnawing.
