With traditional production of brood salmon with two winters at sea, it is possible with adapted light and temperature regimes to control the spawning time from the beginning of September to February. With this production, it is not possible to deliver roe for three months. around late summer and early harvest. Roe delivery throughout the year is important for the salmon industry. Smolt plants are increasingly based on recycling technology, and a maximum utilization of the production capacity of the food fish plants depends on a good spread on the smolt sets. The opportunity to deliver roe all year round is therefore important for the competitiveness of Norwegian roe producers, and for the aquaculture industry in general. In this project, smolt will be transferred to a land-based facility in the spring of 2014, for further growth and light bullying until March 2016. Medthis will achieve an acceleration of the spawning time of three months. compared to spawning under natural conditions. The research part of the project has three main elements: i) gender sorting of smolts of 100- 200 g using. of ultrasound so that there is a gender distribution of 70% female / 30% male fish. ii) design a photoperiod and temperature regime based on two annual cycles that provide spawning in July, while focusing on good fish welfare and ensuring optimal roe quality iii) implementation of screening programs to investigate land-based production of brood salmon with intake of disinfected The sea can produce fish that are free of specific pathogenic salmon viruses. An important part of the project is to optimize the operating conditions in the sea phase in a land-based recycling plant, with regard to water quality.
