The MARCOS project will investigate and analyze the potential of large-scale offshore aquaculture (LSOA) for three scenarios: (1) as a “stand-alone” activity in dedicated areas; (2) integrated in newly to be developed zones according to the multi-use principle; and (3) integrated into operational wind farms. For each of these scenarios, the strengths, weaknesses, risks and knowledge gaps will be mapped. Based on this, a roadmap will be developed that describes which efforts, innovations and knowledge building are needed to increase the chances of success of LSOA.
