The project will carry out multidisciplinary research and development to optimize large-scale hatchery production of salmon that also ensures good animal welfare, smolt quality and post-smolt performance. The project contains several sub-projects and will, through a more professional approach, contribute to solving key bottlenecks related to technology, water quality, smolt quality and welfare during upscale intensive production. The project focuses on challenges related to smolt farming on a commercial scale, and integrates biological, water chemical, economic, logistical and technological challenges, with emphasis on proposing solutions to the problems described. A key part of the project will be to disseminate the research results so that they can be used quickly in the aquaculture industry, as well as international scientific publication. The main activity in the project will be carried out at Marine Harvest's facilities in Tveitevågen and Glomfjord. The facilities make all the necessary facilities available for the project to carry out the experiments described in the application.
