Fouling of nets and structures starts with biofilm formation which is followed by fouling organisms such as algae, molluscs, crustaceans and hydroids (Corner et al 2007). Fouling creates significant challenges and costs in fish farming. Antifouling agents, chemicals and mechanical cleaning processes are costly, harmful for fish health and the environment. The industry has a need for better and more environmentally friendly solutions purification methods that are less energy-consuming, resource-intensive, polluting and providing less wear on the nets and equipment. NOC has designed an environmentally friendly and cost effective solution to prevent the fouling on marine structures in aquaculture for use in open sea and closed systems. The solution is estimated to give a minimum 67% reduction of mechanical Notre and eliminate drug treatment is done due to fouling. The project will measure, analyze and estimate cost savings and environmental benefits of Troll, and compare the results with existing treatment systems. The project will further analyze and quantitate secondary operations and fish health effects resulting from Troll. The aquaculture industry could potentially save billions NOK annually Troll installed on all systems. This frees up funds industry can use to increase their R & D efforts, investments and / or perform product development to enhance competitiveness. TROLL technology will not affect the fish cages and the surrounding ecosystem negatively. This technology will not be limited to fisheries and can be used in industry segments such as land-based fish farming and aquaculture, smolt and metallurgy, shipping and oil / gas.
