Summary Insufficient hygienisation in aquaculture impairs the health status of the fish, leading to waste of the resources and economic loses for the producers. To reduce the loses, a professional approch is urgently needed. One promising approach is the prophylaxis/hygienisation with substances based on peracetic acid. Compared with medicines and antibiotics, peracetic acid-based substances are friendlier to the environment, the consumers and the fish. To achieve these positives, following requirements must be fulfilled: 1. a professional application method and 2. a reliable measurement method. Unfortunately both are missing in aquaculture practice. With the present project, the relevant knowledge from research and practice will be converted into a practice-feasible product. This product provides a suitable application strategy depending on the onsite situation, and also enables a quick onsite doses control. With the help of this product, healthier fish will be produced with better resource efficiency and greater economic benefits. Furthermore, the food safety of the aquaculture products will be improved. Through the utilization of the product and the spread of the knowledge, the knowledge transfer from research into practice, as well as the cooperation between research organizations and the producers in Germany, will be enhanced.
