It is aimed to mature eels under controlled conditions and produce feeding larvae. At the same time the cultivation of gelatinous plankton as nutrition basis shall be developed and optimized. This cooperation shall increase the number of species available for cultivation in Germany. To successfully produce feeding eel larvae the vTI Institute of Fisheries Ecology will first optimize the artificial maturation of eels. At the same time adequate keeping conditions for adult eels and suitable breeding facilities will be developed in cooperation with Kunststoff Spranger GmbH Plauen. The production of gelatinous plankton will be optimized in small scale experiments at the University of Hamburg. The close cooperation with BlueBio Tech GmbH will allow the adjustment of the composition of feeding organisms to the needs of eel larvae. It will further be tried to increase the scale of cultivation of gelatinous plankton to fulfill the requirements of a continuous larvae production.
