Start year 2007 End year 2008 Funding (€) € NA Website NA Summary This pilot project is framed within the need to promote sustainable growth in aquaculture from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and is proposed in order to select areas of interest for the development of aquaculture, using an integrative methodology. that favors the planning of coastal areas, and supported by geographic information systems (GIS). General objective: Seek a sustainable and orderly development of aquaculture activity in the two selected areas (Barbate and Costa da Morte) as a complementary measure for job creation and business development. Specific objectives: (1) Identify the areas in which activities related to aquaculture are currently carried out, assessing the degree of use; (2) Identify the economic, cultural and social activities in the studied areas; (3) Identify the environmental aspects involved; (4) Identify possible conflicts that currently occur and those that could occur in the medium-long term over land use; (5) Analyze the potential for aquaculture use taking into account all the factors involved; (6) Identify potential areas for aquaculture development; (7) Prepare a coastal zoning and planning proposal; (8) Estimate the medium and long-term evolution of the study areas.
