To evaluate the long term and short term effects of handling (mainly pumping and crowding) of Atlantic salmon smolt. The effects we investigate are physiological stress and welfare. It is believed that handling of smolt during fresh water phase may contribute to losses of fish later in sea water. This is a problem in salmon farming today. Goal: to reduce wounds and increase welfare in smolt that are pumped and handled and to prevent long term injuries as a result of handling earlier in life.
