Summary "The farming industry uses a number of non-medicinal (IMM) measures against salmon lice; both preventive measures and treatment methods (de-lice removal). Large amounts of data are recorded in connection with non-medicinal measures, but such data are rarely collected and analysed. It would be useful for the farming industry to obtain aggregated information about the effect the various methods have on different stages of lice, how long-lasting the effect is after de-lice removal, what the effect is on fish health, and see if this can be put in context with the season (temperature ), various preventive measures, or other conditions at the facilities.
Main objective:
To compare and evaluate IMM de-lice methods with emphasis on de-lice effect, fish welfare, infection potential after treatment, and connection with preventive measures.
Subgoals:
1. To compare the de-lice effect and standard fish welfare parameters before and after different types of de-lice, include information on preventive measures and conditions at the facilities (work package 1).
2. To obtain detailed information on fish welfare/stress responses through various types of lice removal from already ongoing projects (work package 1).
3. To compare the infection potential from egg strings from lice that have survived different types of lice removal, and investigate whether there are signs of increased tolerance to low salinity and warm water in the first and second generation after lice removal (work package2).
4. To compile and analyze results from the work packages and prepare recommendations for method selection, which are published as an openly accessible guide ( work package 3)."
