The former Expert Group for Coastal Zone Research in FHF discussed several times the problem of area-intensive mooring systems for aquaculture facilities. The requirements for safety against escapes mean that the current anchoring ropes can be very long, and could partly prevent fishing far beyond the fishing ban zone around such facilities. FHF wants to address this issue, and see if it may be possible to design the mooring system in less area-demanding, but at least as safe ways. Experiences and technology from other industries may be utilized. Objectives for phase 1: 1. To conduct a working meeting (workshop) with broad participation from actors in the fisheries and aquaculture industry, but also other relevant industries such as oil and gas and maritime operations. 2. To map technology status, challenges and needs related to secure and less area-intensive anchoring solutions. 3, To identify opportunities for improvement and potential for new solutions that can meet the need.
