"The build-up and discharge of static electricity in feed hoses used in the aquaculture industry is an important HSE challenge. High tension can build up in the feed hoses, which can then be discharged when the hoses are cut or in some cases when people move close to the hoses. The aquaculture industry in Trøndelag has set up a working group to find methods that reduce the risk of electric shock. A new guide on how to handle the feed hoses in daily work entitled “Handling the feed hoses, you should take care of this!” has been prepared by ACE in collaboration with the industry and SINTEF Energi. Goals: 1) To obtain and describe current knowledge about static electricity in feed hoses, and relevant scientifically based knowledge from areas other than aquaculture. 2) To test out the most current known methods that can be used directly today to control such electrical discharges from feed hoses. 3) To test new material technology in feed hoses for the reduction of static stresses. 4) To ensure quality and publish procedures for work with and around feed hoses to avoid problems with static electricity."
