In todays salmon production there is an increasing demand for whole year supply of high quality eggs. To satisfy customer demands, AquaqGen is currently establishing land-based broodstock production in a recirculation aquaculture system (RAS) to produce out-of season eggs to fill an existing gap in our whole year egg production cycle. To optimize biomass utilization and monitor maturation during RAS production, we will establish methods using ultrasound technology. The main objectives of this project are to use ultrasound technology as a fast and non-invasive method to sex grade fish and to monitor maturation. In addition, we will use ultrasound to study the effect of fat distribution on maturation and growth as part of our breeding program.
