Regions with favorable growth conditions for seaweed cultivation are identified by modeling their ecological niche. The outcome of this ecological model is a species-specific response, the habitat suitability, which quantifies growth as a function of temperature, salinity, light and nutrients for a selection of European seaweeds. Taking into account future climate scenarios also predicts how regions with favorable growth conditions will evolve in the future.
