Damage to farming facilities during operation and the subsequent escape of farmed salmon is a recurring problem in the industry. Over the past ten years, an average of more than 200,000 salmon and rainbow trout have escaped from Norwegian farms each year. It is natural to assume that a good part of the escapes come as a result of a smaller, undetected hole that is allowed to grow over time. When a knot line breaks, the neighboring threads have to take up the load and this leads to an increased probability of these also breaking. If damage can be detected while it is still so small that it does not pose a risk of escape, a large part of the escape problem will probably be solved. The project should be carried out to give the industry access to a new and revolutionary tool for inspecting facilities. Performance target: • To develop a camera system with associated machine vision software that can automatically inspect the breeding stock in a facility. • To develop an underwater drone with associated control software that can accurately and reliably carry out inspection of the seine. • To give the industry knowledge about this new technology via articles, reports etc.
