Within aquaculture species, there is a need to detect new markers to genetically characterize cultured stocks, and determine the difference with wild populations. In order to do this, new microsatellites loci were isolated for the grey mullet Mugil cephalus. Microsatellites were then used for the genetic monitoring of wild populations and cultured stocks of Mugil cephalus and Sparius aurata.
