European Fisheries Policy have to deal with internal European matters like preservation of natural resources, access to production areas, social, economic and demographic consequences, and at the same time face the global competition in European markets. The project will investigate changes and ongoing processes affecting European countries and their regions and look into territorial impacts on Europe of these changes in view of the aim of cohesion, territorial balanced and sustainable development and polycentrism. Moreover potentials and preconditions for innovation in the marine sector will be considered. The project is in particular asked to address the diversity of types of coastal regions and the possible influence of economic dynamics as well as of fisheries policies on the spatial development of coastal regions. Issues like polycentric development at local/regional level and the role of accessibility in developing new activities in the fishing industry in different types of regions will be studied. Finally, the project will deal impacts of fisheries policies on different types of coastal regions in relation to the concept of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).
