The project GENEAQUA aims to provide an analysis of the present level of scientific understanding and uncertainties with regard to genetic engineering (GE) in aquaculture. The purpose is to improve our understanding of the fate of recombinant DNA constructs in fish and environments and thereby attain an integrative understanding and approach to sustainable use of GE in aquaculture. This involves the need to identify both the benefits and to assess the risk and uncertainties. The project will be carried out at the Norwegian Institute of Gene Ecology (GenØk) in close cooperation with partners in the ongoing NFR projects (157157/150 and 165144/S30) and in the EU project IMAQUANIM. We apply for funding of one Ph.D. student, travels and seminars
