The pilot project "Pumping of live and gutted fish" aimed to shed light on the problem of pumping sufficiently to produce a sketch for a main project on more gentle and efficient pumping of live and gutted fish. To achieve this goal, a workshop was arranged at Myre where researchers, equipment suppliers, breeders and managers gathered to discuss challenges around pumping. Furthermore, a literature search was performed to find out how much documentation there is on pumping. The results of this search showed that there is little documentation on the effects of pumping. Talks with industry reinforce the conclusion that an increased focus on developing welfare indicators and limit values for gentle pumping is necessary. The preliminary project has the following sub-goals: • Illuminate the problem sufficiently to find areas that must be evaluated, tested and implemented in a main project. • Obtain information, literature and create a basis for discussion for a workshop with special emphasis on welfare, technology, quality and accuracy / sales. • Arrange a workshop with participants from users of pumps, manufacturers, researchers, organizations and management.
