This project was born as a initiative to minimize discards in the "Baka" bottom trawl. To do this, first we have tried to determine the selectivity of current fishing system that includes a 100 mm square mesh panel in the extension piece of the trawl, just in front of the codend. Subsequently we have tried to design and test at sea in conditions of commercial fishing, devices to improve the selectivity of the "Baka" trawl in order to reduce the byctach. Goals:(1) To minimize the fish discard in the fishery; (2) Discard Characterization, species concerned, quantities and reasons for discard; (3) Identify and describe Fish behaviour inside the trawl; (4) Analyse the selectivity of the gear with the mandatory Square Mesh panel; (5) Design new selective devices according to species behaviour; (6) To test efficiency of the selective devices.
