The aim of the studies was to describe the biological and ecological problems of the early developmental stages of herring in the Vistula Lagoon, which have yet to be investigated. The information obtained was used to describe the mechanisms which determine the abundance of fish generations, and, in the modelling part, to study the functioning of the lagoon ecosystem in the range of nutrient circulation and primary production.
