The goal of this project is to utilise ecosystem and multi-species modelling techniques to investigate the dynamics of the food web based around the commercial fish species in the Irish Sea. The specific objectives of this study are: To develop an updated Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE) model for the Irish Sea, based on existing models and populated with new data from surveys, and landings. Delivering a literature and data review, stakeholder derived food web diagram, completed Ecopath with Ecosim model, key drivers of change, Ecosim scenarios, Ecospace (spatial model) and spatial scenarios. To compare findings of the updated EwE model with other multi-species models used internationally. This will be delivered through a multispecies ensemble model and comparisons with EwE outputs in a paper. To develop scenarios with stakeholders to investigate the possible food web based explanations for the unusual high mortality, as well as the changes in growth rate, productivity etc. Delivering a report on the stakeholer based management scenarios to the stakeholders. To determine, if possible, the explanatory factors underpinning the recovery failure in the Irish Sea commercial fish stocks, and to propose mitigating management actions on the basis of these findings.
