CRIMAC will enhance and automate the interpretation of data and images from modern broadband acoustics on research vessels and fishing vessels using experimental field cruises and research, artificial intelligence, drones and inspection technology. Goals: 1. Improve automatic interpretation of fishing acoustics (broadband), including target sizing (fish and bubbles), target identification and increased spatial resolution. 2. To aid target classification of fish and zooplankton by experimental measurements of known targets and backscatter patterns. 3. Collect baseline data for machine learning projects on research vessels and in commercial fisheries with similar and calibrated instrumentation. 4. Develop better verification methods using optical systems, dropped probes and working drones. 5. Develop automated classification systems based on modern machine learning methods. 6. Collaborate with user partners to apply the techniques and tools developed in points 1) to 4) in scientific investigations, for size and species classification in fisheries, for size, growth and behavioral measurements in aquaculture and to improve gas and bubble detection systems for the energy sector.
