The quality challenge of spinner wadfish is well known both in industry and research. The problems have been linked to large single hauls (20–100 tonnes) which have yielded fish with a lot of damage, lower quality and higher mortality, compared to smaller catches. At the same time, as of today, this is the gear that is best suited for catching animals on board or for storing animals on land. However, several fish reception centers have reported significant damage and blood stains in the fish meat of particularly large cod (+8 kg) caught with seine seines. Main objective: To find the causes of injuries and a lot of blood in the fish meat for large spinner cod 8+ kg. Sub-goals: • To prepare a knowledge status based on previous research concerning the quality of spinner wad fish, especially large cod over 8 kg, including catch and handling methodology for live catch. • To carry out systematic variation of catch and handling parameters, in order to reveal what is good and bad practice on the part of vessels and fish receptions, through full-scale trials. • To propose, implement and document measures that have been shown to work through trials.
