The focus of the project - study of the presence and distribution of bottlenose dolphins and interactions with fishing activities in the ambit of a MPA - represents an example of a ""challenge"" of integrated management of marine spaces and connected activities. The stress factors affecting marine mammal populations are manifold: e.g., the construction of marine wind farms, the use of airguns, increasing marine traffic, etc. and therefore there are, at various decision-making levels, a growing number of recommendations, programmatic documents and strategies to be adopted to mitigate the risks associated with this specific interaction. The implementation of the Marine Strategy (2008/56/EC), with the development of activities aimed at achieving the Good Environmental Status (GES) has made it possible to overcome a legislative gap regarding the potential risk factors prevailing in the marine environment. Goals: 1) To acquire information on the presence and distribution of the bottlenose dolphin in relation to the various coastal habitats present in the survey areas (in particular the priority coralligenous and posidonia habitats), in order to determine their ecological relevance for the species. 2) To characterize the overlap between bottlenose dolphins and professional, artisanal and recreational fishing activities, in order to identify the degree of interaction, define the possible impacts on individuals and mitigate possible conflicts with local fishermen.
