Summary The Norwegian fisheries has reached a state where improvements in fishing methods and vessel designs are getting more scarce. But there might still be room for improvement, given that decision makers could have access to better information.
This project will investigate the possibility of combining and analysing data from on-board systems and instruments with land-based information sources.
The primary objective of the project is to establish a robust information system for the fishing fleet that improves the efficiency of fisheries, thereby improving profitability and reducing the fleet's environmental footprint.
Status summer 2016:
-During the summer of 2016, the first version of ESUSHI Operation & Planning is ready for use. Web-based Services integrate information on catches, vessel operations, ocean temperature, salinity and moon phase from 2008 to 2016. The users can graphically study the correlations in an interactive user interface based on Openlayers 3, JavaScript, DC/D3.js and Cross Filter (open source).
- 4 vessels log operating data to SINTEF Maritime Data Center where the information is made available for analysis is a Big Data analysis configuration
- The project has developed predictions of catch that show promising results. Multiple data sources are used for analysis, including a large database of ocean measurements from NERSC.
