Cod is one of the most important fish species in northern Europe for marine ecosystem food chains and for its historical role in fisheries. For the Polish fishing industry, it is the most important species, with its annual catches reaching approximately 13 thousand tons. The scientific objectives of the project are to study the diversity of populations of cod (Gadus morhua) in the Southern and Western Baltic Sea (ICES Subdivisions 22-28) with the use of advanced SNP genotyping technique and to study the genome wide gene expression. Identifying differences at the genotype level and in gene expression will provide information on environmental adaptations of local populations.
