SeaFish provide a limited number to training courses to fishermen delivered at the flume tank in Denmark. The purposes of these courses is to help fishermen improve the overall performance of their fishing activity and learn of new technologies which will aid them in this. Discard reduction and more targeted fishing is covered extensively in the course (2 days). Fishermen are introduced to alternative fishing methods and sustainable fishing practices and given the opportunity to make proposals which are then modelled in the flume tank. Goals: The transfer of knowledge/expertise to fishermen who need help/assistance to improve their current gear performance or solve a problem. Fishermen are already expert at fishing but benefit from a better understanding of what they do and why they do it, in order to make continual improvements. This helps improve the competitiveness and reputation of the UK fleet in an international market.
