This Project was created to assess the reliability of the results of a previous study on the selectivity of the basket traps used to catch Nassarius mutabilis in the Adriatic Sea. A number of experimental traps were assigned to small-scale fishermen belonging to the main fisheries of the Marche Region, who were asked to test their selectivity and efficiency in comparison to that of the commercial basket traps normally used for target N. mutabilis. The results agreed with those obtained in the previous selectivity study and the efficiency of the experimental traps towards specimens larger than the minimum Landing size was similar to that of commercial traps. (1) To test basket traps having a mesh opening of 23 mm (stretched) in the main small-scale fisheries of the Marche Region; (2) To verify the reliability of the results obtained in a previous study on the selectivity of basket traps; (3) To assess the fishing efficiency of the experimental basket traps having a mesh size of 23 mm.
