The project will put on the agenda possible consequences of free choice of gear in the pelagic sector and in the cod sector. One must pay special attention to whether a free choice of gear represents an efficiency gain for the part of the fishing fleet covered by the project. The background for the project refers to an important objective of identifying new measures that can rationalize fishing and including strengthening the fishing fleet's environmental profile within the framework of current fisheries management. Consequences of free choice of tools must be analyzed in the light of indicators such as: a) the fleet's carbon footprint; b) economic effects; c) capacity development; d) catch and landing pattern; e) effects on fleet structure; f) the use of catch areas (area); g) taxation pattern.
