"This pilot project is based on the fact that large amounts of equipment and fishing gear are discarded every year. A significant part of the tool and equipment is made of plastic. Unlike other waste, the return schemes for this type of plastic waste are poorly developed. Although some tools are recycled today, the industry finds that it can be difficult to get rid of the equipment. Therefore, the handling of this type of waste appears to be a challenge for the entire fishing and aquaculture industry. On the other hand, there is a growing market for plastic waste for recycling and much of the equipment will have a positive value in this market. Through this preliminary project, the intention is to lay a first foundation for developing good return schemes for this type of equipment. In the study, they have chosen to prioritize fishing gear from the fisheries, farming nets, ropes as well as floating collars, hoses and pipes from fish farms, in sum the equipment that is considered most suitable for recycling." The pilot project will lay the necessary foundation for the further development work and the preparation of a main project by collecting data on the collection and recycling that has already started. In addition, product flows and volume will be mapped, environmental effects assessed and various recycling models outlined.
