Summary In this study, which is going to be carried on the shelf area of Samsun, in Black Sea and during the fishing periods of 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14 it is aimed to determine the current status of Black Sea trawl fishery and to get some fishery and population parameters pertaining to target species of trawl fishery. The trawl fishery is the major fishing method in Black Sea. One of the most important problems with Samsun trawl fishery is bycatch and discards in fishing. A large proportion of the catch taken on to deck is released back to the sea after the removal of target species. The thrown part of this yield create great losses by two ways; the first is bio economical and the second is ecological (the breaks in trophic food chain and changes in ecosystem). Considering the fishery economy; the fisherman is not satisfied with the catch per unit effort. And resolutely, this unsatisfaction induces illegal fishing methods. The littoral zone of western Black Sea including Samsun shelf region was treated with intense trawling for long periods. The destroying effects of bottom trawling on commercial and non-commercial benthic/demersal fauna was always discussed in our country as it is in world, and cause many speculations mostly having no scientific base. This research was also planned to make a comparative study on dominant species from two kind of stocks &"exploited"; and ?non-exploited";. It is aimed to identify how to gain the basic fishery data in our country that is required for EU fishery laws and to improve an original methodology peculiar to conditions of our country. The obtained data will provide perfect knowledge of reference to develop short-, medium- and long-term strategies and management programs arranging the trawl fishery. Furthermore, new recommendations will be bring to administrators. This study will also make contributions to the management of commercial stocks and to determine the responsibilities which must be undertaken by public governors and by fishermen.
