A skipper / boat owner from Vardø had major problems with his 47 feet vessel MK ”Nordheimson” (F-111-V / 3YMQ) after the last conversion / upgrade in 2006. Based on the skipper and crew's descriptions and SINTEF's measurements, the vessel's seaworthiness was considered bad. By poor seaworthiness is meant that the vessel gets large rolling movements in moderate sea level rise. According to our assessments, the large rolling movements are due to the vessel having too much weight in relation to the hull's ability to dampen rolling. Based on these results some measures have been suggested to improve the vessel's sea properties.
