In this project, we present several methodological and technological avenues to improve marine monitoring and assessment methods on two specific ecosystems defined in the call: seafloor habitats and fish spawning areas in shallow coastal areas and adjacent rivers. We will develop and test innovative and cost-effective monitoring systems, as well as indicators of environmental status in order to implement the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the Habitat Directive as well as to provide better advice and guidance about the sustainable usage of valuable marine resources. We will develop and apply spatially explicit assessment methods for evaluating how alternative human uses either alone or in combination may affect biotic patterns, ecosystem functioning and societal benefits, with the aim of supporting sustainable governance and blue growth primarily in coastal areas. This will be done under alternative pressure- and policy-scenarios.
