It is a desire of the fishermen to look at the possibility of fishing for saithe, haddock and cod on a hook gear that does not have as large operating costs as a hand-suitable line or as high investment costs as autoline. On the coast of Finnmark, during the summer, large numbers of haddock stand high up in the sea and graze on bait. This haddock is fished on a flute line, this is a line that stands from 10–80 fathoms up in the sea, depending on the length of the flute and the number of flutes per stomp. The flute line fishing is costly, it costs around 260 kroner in fishing, 60-70 kroner in bait per stamp, fineing of line, and payment to the farmer (whoever cuts up the bait, manages vases and facilitates the owners). It thus costs the fishermen between 420 and 470 kroner to get a suitable stamp line. What has happened in recent years is that the bait price has gone up while the fish price has gone down. It has also become very difficult to get hold of owners, especially Norwegians. The haddock price is also low in relation to the expenses (NOK 8-9 per kg). This means that there are very few, The same profitability problems are found in the fishing for cod in the spring and autumn and the whistle fishing for saithe in the autumn. In recent years, mackerel has also come further north and is today found in catchable quantities all the way up to the West Fjord. However, rigging for ordinary mackerel dorging is very expensive, so very few in the north have been able to afford this investment. It will therefore be of great importance for fishermen and fish receptions along the coast to be able to use a cheap and efficient tool to fish these species. Recruitment to the fisheries will also be boosted as it will be possible to extract large values only by using the roundabout tool. Goals: to develop the old round dorga to become an efficient fully or partially automated tool for cod, haddock and mackerel adapted to today's shark fleet. Performance target for preliminary project To develop a plan for the development of a prototype roundabout in collaboration between coastal fishermen and SINTEF. The plan shall contain: • proposal for concept • requirements specification • qualification of industrial partners • budget for main project with realization of prototype • project sketch for main project
