The aim of the project was to propose a repeatable Marine Spatial Planning framework aimed at enhancing fisheries sustainability through the composition of a catalog of possible measures. Particular focus was given to the support provided to the whole process by the application of Decision Support Tools. The use of these tools proved very useful to identify possible criticalities and support an effective exchange with sector operators, local authorities and fishermen, whose involvement was an indispensable step in the process. Results highlighted how trawling represents one of the major pressures affecting essential fish habitats, marine turtles and bottlenose dolphins in the study area. A complex set of measures scenarios to reduce the impacts of fisheries while guaranteeing economic perspectives are discussed.
