The aim of this project is two-fold. The two main actions share a generic goal of collecting objects from fishing which are out of use and other waste from the seabed during the ordinary tasks of the fishing fleet. This is to provide evidence that there are large amounts of this type of solid waste in the seas that could have a serious ecological impact. The project also aims to test a strategy of protocols and practices around the guardians of the sea concept between the Spanish fishing sectors and show its potential as an activity that is complementary to the current investigation. (1) Approach diagnosis on the matter in question; (2) Technical report: protocol to implement campaigns of collecting of fishing gears from seabeds; (3) To articulate protocol fields of collaboration and interaction among researchers of marine-fishing sciences and fishermen. The aim is to achieve collaboration schemes or permanent collaboration frames so they can be implemented among the sector and public administration; (4)Study of impact of lost fishing gear: classification and ecological quantification; (5) Pilot testing of digital devices of environmental data on-board.
